比較では、次の3つを区別して覚える必要があります。

1. 比較の基準と比較の対象
比較では、次の2つを意識する。
比較の基準
形容詞・副詞が表す内容である。
例：
Tom is taller than Ken.
この文では、tall「背が高い」 が比較の基準である。
つまり、「身長」について比べている。
比較の対象
実際に比べられているもの同士である。
Tom is taller than Ken.
この文では、比較の対象は Tom と Ken である。
比較の対象は、意味のうえで同じ形になる必要がある。
たとえば、「北海道の気温」と「東京」を比べるのではなく、「北海道の気温」と「東京の気温」を比べる必要がある。
同じ語句の繰り返しを避けるために、次の語が使われることが多い。

基本
no + 比較級 + than は、難しい文章でよく出る表現である。
この構文では、than を単純な「〜より」と考えると誤読しやすい。
読み方の手順
1. than は「＝」の記号と考える
no more ～ than … は、「…と同様に～ではない」という関係を表す。
2. than 以下の省略を補う
比較構文では、than 以下に省略が起こりやすい。
3. no + 比較級を not に置き換えて考える
no more は not に近い意味で考えるとよい。
ただし、no less は not に置き換えず、「同じく重要だ」「まさに同じくらい」と考える。

no more than は「たった」。
not more than は「せいぜい」。
