In the end, the company appointed an outside consultant to examine the system and make it easier for employees to use.

For most of the trial, the witness had answered the prosecutor’s questions calmly and had given the impression that his version of events was entirely consistent. However, the lawyer’s final question drove the witness, already shaken by two hours of cross-examination, to admit that he had concealed several important facts. That single admission afterward proved the earlier testimony unreliable and left the jury visibly uneasy.
